The Mental Health Technician I is responsible for providing supervision and direction to emotionally and behaviorally challenged children and adolescents in a compassionate and respectful manner. This includes supervising the morning routines of children and ensuring the completion of proper self care tasks. This responsibility also includes demonstrating a variety of counseling and parenting skills, which support the formation of trusting, supportive relationships with the children. This also includes requiring an unwavering commitment to the safety of kids and being aware of all ongoing developments and concerns, on a daily basis of all children in their care. Additionally, this position participates in the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans and unit programs, which are designed to meet the special needs of the children.
Purpose: Job Duties / Essential Functions
+ Ensure a safe and secure environment. Act immediately to remove all dangers or threats to the welfare of our kids and know the whereabouts of all children in your care.
+ Demonstrate skills in the areas of relationship building, appropriate boundaries and role modeling with children.
+ Demonstrate care, compassion, respect, integrity, truthfulness and ethical behavior with kids as well as interactions with other staff members.
+ Supervise daily routines and responsibilities of children and ensure performance of daily self care tasks assisting when necessary. Provide minor first aid treatment where necessary.
+ Supervise the morning routines of the children in a supportive, professional manner.
+ Complete all clerical tasks, shopping needs, and housekeeping responsibilities, supply ordering and other errands or house duties.
+ Provide transportation when necessary to and from school, bus station, airport, and court, etc.
+ Fully perform restraints as necessary when ordered by a licensed professional using the current approved KidsPeace restraint methodology on youth who may weigh in excess of 250 pounds and who are physically threatening or otherwise presenting a threat to themselves or others.
+ Participate in the planning and implementation of individualized treatment plans as well as daily treatment schedules in accordance with House/Module programming.
+ Communicate all relevant client information obtained by daily supervision to appropriate treatment team members on a timely basis.
+ Follow all KidsPeace policies regarding medication administration. Distribute all prescribed medication to children and complete all necessary documentation.
+ All other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications (Education, Training and Experiences)
1. High School graduate or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree in Mental Health or related field preferred.
2. Some experience with acute emotionally challenged children or adolescents preferred.
3. Valid driver’s license required.
4. Must possess basic personal computer knowledge and skills.
5. Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
6. Physically capable to complete hold procedures during crisis situations.
