Mental Health Technician 1- Emergency Department-Nights

Inova Fairfax medical Campus Emergency Department is seeking Mental Health Technician 1 to join the Emergency Department. 

The Mental Health Technician 1 assists in the delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Collaborates with care team members in implementing a plan of care to meet individualized and developmental patient care outcomes. Partners with the Registered Nurse to create a professional development plan to provide team members with the necessary skills to deliver up to date patient care.

This role is a full-time 12-hour night shift/ 3 days per week position. 

Job Responsibilities:

Communicates patients' progress toward desired outcomes and changes to the Registered Nurse. Monitors patients/their environment and intervenes appropriately to promote a safe and therapeutic milieu.  Completes forms and flow sheets accurately according to policies and procedures. Reinforces transition/discharge teaching and home care skills.  Describes the unit's quality improvement activities, trends, and goals. Participates actively in quality improvement initiatives and reports variances in practice in accordance with Inova Health System policies and procedures.  Demonstrates competency in all required clinical skills and technologies, sharps maintenance, search and disposition of patient belongings, de-escalation, and crisis prevention.  Provides information to patients, families, and visitors, orients patient to the unit and program, explains rationale for rules or restrictions, provides printed information.  Provides basic activities of daily living nursing care while monitoring activity, sleep and intake/output.

Education:

High School or GED

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association.
