The Mental Health Therapist, under the supervision of the Recovery Academic Program Director, provides specialized clinical services to adolescents with a focus on co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders within the Recovery Academic Program.

What to expect.

You will offer recovery support, crisis intervention, and collaborates with educational staff to ensure the holistic well-being of students. You will also play a key role in designing and implementing therapeutic programming for summer and after-school activities. Flexibility in work hours is necessary to accommodate family therapy sessions and comfortability in both schools, homes, and off-site settings.

Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments to evaluate client needs, strengths, and treatment goals. Develop and implement personalized treatment plans focused on addressing co-occurring disorders and promoting recovery. Provide individual, family, and group therapy to address a range of psychosocial, behavioral, and emotional challenges. Offer crisis intervention services, including safety planning and immediate therapeutic support during emergencies. Provide consultation and collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to support student progress. Design and implement Summer Therapeutic Activity Programs to ensure continued support outside of the school year. Facilitate recovery support services tailored to adolescents navigating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Complete all required clinical documentation in compliance with Sheppard Pratt policies, ensuring thorough and accurate client records. If not independently licensed (LCSW-C or LCPC), participate in weekly individual and/or group supervision with a board-approved licensed supervisor. Perform on-call duties as assigned to provide emergency therapeutic services and ensure client safety outside of regular work hours.

What we need from you.

A master’s degree in social work or counseling required. Must be licensed or pre-licensed in Maryland as a: Licensed Certificated Social Worker – Clinical (LCSW-C) Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) A strong background in adolescent mental health, with a focus on treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, is highly preferred. Experience in recovery support and trauma-informed care is beneficial. Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Professional (CCDP) is preferred but not required.
