Merchandising Intern - HBCO

Essential Function:

As a team member of Happy Beauty Co. this summer role will support the merchant organization in delivering sales for future growth and expansion.  This internship will provide exposure to multi-facets of retail, inclusive of the following:  product management, financials, marketing, pricing, visual impact, product development, sourcing, and competitive assessment. This position will work directly with merchants and cross-functional teams as we deliver day to day actions while supporting analysis for go forward strategies.  This is a hybrid role reporting into the office in Denton Texas 2 days a week.

Primary Duties:

Category Management

Assess category sales results.  Define opportunities, growth vendors, trends and big ideas. Analyze and react to performance from marketing, promotion, targeted merchandising.   Evaluate visual big moments/items to drive repeat sales, and explosive impacts.                  Collaborate with merchant to build/alter business plans to achieve financial goals.                Learn/establish best practice processes to ensure timelines are met for regulatory, item set up, order entry, POG's, visual/marketing impact, allocations and reorder needs. Take action with merchant direction on product challenges: poor delivery and/or performance. Support future strategy and development for owned brand opportunities.

Financials & Operations

In-depth exposure to open to buy, mix of business, and performance analysis.                     Introduction and discovery to use and function of mark-up, margin, and turn of product.  Track order delivery, communicate shipment progress, and close orders timely.  Establish relationship with P & A and DC if challenges exist with allocation/delivery.

Product Merchandising, Vendor Relations & Stores Organization                           

Forge & build partnership to ensure open dialogs for results driven opportunities. Communicate weekly performance and discuss actions to be taken for growth.                    Support building of presentation standards, fixture capacity, and POG's with in/out direction. Visit stores bi-monthly to visualize execution, assess and report out. Take learnings to create best practices with collaborators & vendor support. Support edits of training materials for field and stores education (category/trend/newness).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Currently in business or merchandising undergraduate program. (close to graduation preferred)                      Available to work full 10 week program from June -August  Understanding of basic retail math, enjoys analysis and critical thinking. Swift problem-solving skills and comfort with the daily potential to pivot based on business need. Demonstrated time management with ability to prioritize and achieve deadlines. Ideal experience in one or more of the following retail areas: Beauty/Skincare/Accessory Industry. Systems: Basic Microsoft Suite knowledge specifically excel required.. JDA / Tableau a plus.

Strong analytical and organizational skills combined with high creative potential. Curious self-starter who has the ability to multi-task with accuracy. Comfortable with fast-paced environment, enjoys pushing boundaries. Clear written and verbal communication skills. Professional work ethics that mirror the standards for the department.

Working Conditions /Physical Requirements
 

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
