Merchant Logistics Lead

Merchant Logistics Lead is responsible for acting as key point of contact for carrier and the supply chain to optimize flow upstream for Academy. By leveraging Transportation Management Systems and 3rd parties, this role will lead process improvements by analyzing the best approach to flow product in our network, communication with carriers, DC personnel, internal Academy Sports + Outdoors team members while supporting service level agreements and meeting key performance indicators. This role requires innovative thinking and leadership to drive efficiencies in international and domestic network.

Job Description:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Distribution or Logistics or equivalent years of experience preferred. High School Diploma or GED required

Work Experiences:

5+ years of logistics, inventory management and transportation experienceDemonstrated excellence in using Transportation Management SystemsCustomer Service and Distribution Center experience preferred

Possesses excellent customer service skillsNavigates and prioritizes complex requests to address business demands and needsAbility to work with cross-functional teamsExcellent communicator, both written and verbalAble to independently prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframesStrong analytical background for organizing dataIntermediate working knowledge of purchase order, logistics, transportation inventory flow and managementVery strong attention to detail for data entryStrong presentation skills throughout all levels in a corporationStrategic thinking cross functionallyFinancial acumen in PNL, forecasting modelsIntermediate MS Excel and Word skills, Basic MS Access skills

Responsibilities:

Accumulate, review, and analyze data from multiple systems and sources to improve freight flow and reduce costs (i.e. prepaid versus collect, direct to store, PDQs, upstream cross dock opportunities)Develop and maintain cross functional reports to reduce costs (i.e. detention/layover costs)Work across the organization to forecast freight for carrier management (securing capacity), labor allocation, and equipment utilizationReporting KPIs including carrier scorecards stipulated within the contracts and used to manage carrier performance and contract negotiationsCreate weekly forecasts for leadership based on established volume and pricing metricsAssist with budget preparation and administration using base lining, forecasts, KPI, and score cardingParticipates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures; recommends and implements resulting policies and procedures.Create weekly recaps on trends, root causes, and status updates with root cause analysis to drive out delays and build repeatable business processesActs as a Transportation Management Systems (TMS) Super User to recommend design and configuration enhancements to improve functionality and optimize performance in TMS and other logistics systemsConduct data mining and data analysis to identify trends, opportunities and provide actionable summaries of key findings on a consistent and proactive basis. Define, measure and communicate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Develop best practices for TMS usage to meet business needsAssist with TMS and other logistics systems solution design and requirements gatheringPerform TMS and other logistics systems solution testing, configurations, and user training to meet business requirementsDocument business requirements, solution configuration, script testing, and user guidesCreate future business process designs that meet business needsProvide functional user admin support and identify system and process risks and opportunities.Provide ad hoc financial reportingIdentify and formalize leading and lagging indicators, aligning strategic goals with objectives, targets, and metricsUses metrics for critical events in order management flow (e.g., scheduling response cycle time, actual schedule v. buyer’s requested ship date and published lead time, on-time shipping/on-time delivery performance)Analyze vendor performance through On Time and In full programsAnalyze Academy vendors through prepaid or collectFinancial analysis against budgetary requirementsUnderstand product flow of Academy footprint throughout the supply chainResponsibilities may change; team members may be required to perform other tasks as assigned

Physical Requirements & Attendance

Requires on call after hours, Monday thru Friday, including weekends and some HolidaysAcceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job dutiesAdhere to company work hours, policies, procedures and rules governing professional staff behavior
