Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Metallurgical Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will assist in the analysis and testing of metals and alloys, ensuring that materials meet specific standards and specifications. This role involves conducting experiments, analyzing data, and collaborating with engineers and other technical staff to support metallurgical processes and product development.
Key Responsibilities
+ Material Testing: Conduct tests on metals and alloys to determine their physical and chemical properties, including tensile strength, hardness, and corrosion resistance. Runs contamination testing and oil analysis on production equipment.
+ Sample Preparation: Prepare and polish metal samples for microscopic examination and testing, ensuring adherence to laboratory protocols and safety standards.
+ Data Analysis: Analyze test results and compile reports detailing findings, including recommendations for improvements or changes in material specifications.
+ Quality Control: Assist in quality control processes by performing routine inspections and tests on heat treated components, incoming materials and finished products.
+ Equipment Operation: Trouble shoot furnaces and controls equipment. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, such as spectrometers, hardness testers, and microscopes, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
+ Collaboration: Schedules heat treat production. Work closely with engineers and other technicians to support research and development projects, providing metallurgical expertise and insights.
+ Documentation: Maintain accurate records of tests, procedures, and results in compliance with industry standards and company policies.
+ Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations in the laboratory, ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel.
Qualifications
+ Education: High School Graduate required. Experience in lab environment and associate’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related field preferred.
+ Schedule: Must be able to work rotating shifts and to work weekends. Previous experience in a metallurgical laboratory or similar environment is highly desirable.
+ Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail in testing and reporting.
+ Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information and collaborate with team members.
+ Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and processes as needed.
+ Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also being able to work independently.
