Job Summary
Metal Surface Finish Specialists are responsible for the preparation of metal materials and the application of metal surface finishes such as powdercoat, paint, chemical treatment. Specialists will be expected to read and interpret engineering documents (drawings, schematics, and specifications for examples) to accomplish these activities. Proficiency in application of metal surface finishes is required. Familiarity with common fabrication methods in metals and composite materials is expected. Specialists will be required to use hand tools and to operate common powered, shop tools. Problem-solving and communication skills are highly valued as are communication skills and team members will need to work effectively in groups and with other departments across the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Perform metal preparation operations such as grit blasting, surface abrasion, deburring, sawing, and basic fabrication. Apply metal surface finishes to aircraft and aircraft-related components. Follow verbal, written, and electronic work instruction to complete tasks and record pertinent manufacturing data where required. Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to guide activities and ensure quality. Perform inspections of work completed and document deviations from engineering drawing. Follow all safety standards and policies and ensure a safe operating environment, including use of appropriate protective equipment and identification of potential safety concerns. Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
