METAL WORKER WELDING INSPECTOR
Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Position is assigned to the Metal Working Shop at a marine and earth moving equipment repair and maintenance facility responsible for the fabrication, modification, repair, and installation of various types of metals and is responsible to inspect and determine weld quality. Responsibilities Inspect and determine weld quality performed by others. Determines the weld quality according to applicable codes and/or specifications. Provides training to others on welding procedures and techniques. Inspects a variety of parts produced by metal worker welders, machine operators, and machinists. Investigates causes of critical or major defects and assures corrective action is taken. Performs sheet metal work involving 30-to-16-gauge metals. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) METAL WORKER WELDING INSPECTOR~ without more than normal supervision; Determine the weld quality according to applicable codes and/or specifications and Inspects a variety of parts produced by metal workers. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision PHYSICAL EFFORT The work involves standing, walking, stooping, climbing and crawling. Work may be performed in anawkward or cramped positions. Incumbent frequently handles, lifts, or carries parts or equipmentthat weighs up to 50 pounds. Occasionally may lift and carry items weighing more. ORKING CONDITIONS Works both inside and outside. Is subject to injury from lifting, operating machines and usingmiscellaneous tools. Is exposed to abnormal noise; inclement weather; burns from electric arc, gastorches and molten metal; changing temperatures; and fumes. Danger to the eyes is present frommetal chips, electric arc, rust and dust. Is also subject to danger of explosive gases. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. This position is covered by the DOT rules and USACE ER 690-1-1218. May be subject to random alcohol and drug testing on an unannounced basis.
