Summary You will serve as a METEOROLOGICAL TECHNICIAN in the OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT (N3), NAVAL ICE CENTER of NAVAL ICE CENTER. SALARY RANGE GS-09 $69,923-$ 90,898 / GS-11 $84,601- $109,975 Responsibilities You will Interpret visible, infrared, synthetic aperture radar, and passive microwave sensor data to identify select environmental features. You will use available imagery sources produce analyses and forecasts with a tailored geographical information system (GIS) that depict relevant information for routine products and tailored support products. You will compile, analyze and interpret multiple data sources to produce high quality ice analyses and ice forecasts in digital or message format on a global, regional, or tactical scale. You will use geographical information systems (GIS) to display data sources and perform standardized analysis. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-11: your resume DID NOT also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Interpreting visible, infrared, synthetic aperture radar, and passive microwave sensor data to identify select environmental features; Using available imagery sources produce analyses and forecasts with a tailored geographical information system (GIS) that depict relevant information for routine products and tailored support products; Using geographical information systems (GIS) to display data sources and perform standardized analysis; Utilizing principles of geography, oceanography, meteorology and climatology; Compiling, analyzing and interpreting multiple data sources to produce high quality ice analyses and ice forecasts in digital or message format on a global, regional, or tactical scale using World Meteorological Organization (WMO) standardized meteorological symbology; AND Using environmental model data, satellite imagery, climatology, and in-situ data sources to produce ice analyses, forecasts, and outlooks to support customers. GS-09: your resume DID NOT also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying the principles of geography, oceanography, meteorology and climatology; Assisting with briefings on such subjects as satellite usage, analysis and forecast procedures and general sea and lake ice information; Using computer workstations and various programs for administrative and operational applications; Compiling, analyzing and interpreting multiple data sources to produce high quality analyses; AND Using imagery sources, produce analyses and forecast with geographical information system (GIS). Secondary focus includes possible deployment opportunities onboard ships, aircraft, and field operations to provide navigation and routing recommendations, probability of hazards, and outlooks pertaining to sea ice. This position may require occasional overtime, weekend and holiday shifts. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
