WFXR News is looking for a full-time meteorologist to join our acclaimed weather team. Certified as the most accurate weather team in the Roanoke-Lynchburg DMA for 8 consecutive years by WeatherRate, you’ll have the opportunity to hone your forecasting and broadcasting skills as part of a team with decades of combined broadcast meteorology experienced. Whether you’re a seasoned meteorologist or looking for your first opportunity at the green screen, you’ll be forecasting in a very active region—from tornadoes to tropical systems to winter storms and everything in between. And when you’re not broadcasting live in a newscast, you’ll work on weather stories that resonate with our viewers and help them understand how weather affects their daily lives.
* Responds to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.* Works closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.* Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.* Produces digital content, including written stories and video, detailing the local forecast on a daily basis.*Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites.*Write, report, edit and present weather-related stories for newscasts and digital properties.*Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.Requirements & Skills
*Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology strongly preferred; otherwise, Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.*Fluency in English.*Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to ad-lib during live weathercasts.*Experience in broadcast weather reporting or anchoring preferred.*Knowledge of Baron weather systems, ENPS and Wordpress preferred.*Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and multitask.*Ability to listen and communicate professionally and effectively to solve problems and resolve issues both internally and externally.*Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.*Ability to work any shift, including overnights, weekends and holidays when needed, and respond immediately to emergent weather situations.
