Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Meteorologist to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing our ability to forecast severe weather events and assess wildfire risks, ensuring the safety and reliability of our electric utility operations. This position requires a deep understanding of meteorological principles, advanced forecasting techniques, and a strong commitment to public safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor and analyze weather patterns to provide accurate and timely forecasts of severe weather events, including thunderstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes, extreme winter weather, and other extreme weather conditions. Assess wildfire risks by analyzing meteorological data, vegetation conditions, and other relevant factors to forecast potential wildfire events and their impact on our infrastructure. Develop and maintain tools & strategies for hazard awareness and response including a Wildfire Risk Index to increase awareness and minimize wildfire risk. Collaborate with internal teams, including system operations, fleet operations, and storm center management to develop and implement strategies for mitigating the impact of severe weather and wildfires on our electric utility services. Utilize advanced meteorological tools and technologies to enhance forecasting accuracy and improve decision-making processes. Communicate weather forecasts, warnings, and risk assessments to stakeholders, including company leadership, field personnel, and the public, through clear and concise reports, presentations, briefings, and visualization tools. Conduct post-event analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of forecasting and response efforts, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices. Stay current with the latest advancements in meteorology, climate science, and related fields to continuously improve forecasting capabilities and risk assessment methodologies.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. Proven experience in weather forecasting. Experience with both severe weather and wildfire risk assessments is a plus. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex meteorological data. Proficiency in using meteorological software, tools, and technologies. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Commitment to public safety and the mission of ensuring reliable electric utility services.Preferred Skills:
Experience working in the electric utility industry or a related field. Experience with energy load forecasting and its relationship with weather patterns. Experience with wildfire risk forecasting and assessments. Knowledge of emergency management practices and procedures. Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies.
