Job Summary/Description:
WALA FOX10 News is looking for a high-energy Morning Meteorologist who is passionate about severe weather and delivering forecasts on all platforms. The ideal candidate must be able to produce and deliver a dynamic, compelling, and understandable forecast for our newscasts and digital platforms. Accuracy is a must. You will cover severe weather with urgency, while also being reassuring. Our meteorologists contribute daily to all our platforms, including social media and Connected TV apps including Roku, Apple TV, and Fire. You will work directly with the news team to build out our coverage and make it meaningful and relatable to our viewers. Our meteorologists also report in the field. Strong leadership and teamwork are necessary. Our weather team is involved in the newsroom and the community.
Duties/Responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
* Analyze weather data and prepare detailed and engaging weather forecasts
* Generate creative and engaging, content-driven live shots
* Familiarity with the WSI weather system and software is a plus
* Ability to drive long-form severe weather/event coverage solo or in a team setting both in the studio and in the field
* Ability to multi-task, handle breaking news and breaking weather and adapt to rapidly
changing events
* Cover other meteorologists' shifts as assigned, as well as flexibility to cover shifts during severe weather or other breaking news events
* Post daily stories to our digital platforms and social media, including online weather discussions to explain complex weather phenomena in an easy-to-understand format
* Be actively involved on station's social media platforms and responsive to viewer inquiries
* Work closely with the Chief Meteorologist, news management and newscast producers
Qualifications/Requirements:
- 2 years of professional newsroom and on-air experience preferred
- BS in Meteorology/Atmospheric Science. Seals of the National Weather Association and/or American Meteorological Society are preferred
- An engaging and comfortable on-air personality
- Ability to use judgment to prioritize tasks and assignments
- Ability to communicate effectively with newsroom managers, producers, and co-workers
- Ability to report and forecast weather accurately and creatively under deadline pressure
- Severe Weather coverage experience is a plus along with knowledge of newscast production
