The Meter Reader I position is responsible for all aspects of reading meters and recording these readings on a timely basis.
Position is located out of Ogden, UT.
What You Will Do:
Accurately reads meters and records readings on a timely basis; either manually (walking) or reading with a Mobile Interrogation Unit (MIU.)
Reads specials (MS/MZ, IZ).
Routes daily meter reading.
Inspects and installs transponders.
Reports unusual conditions encountered.
Conducts special meter readings.
Assists Business Office Representatives regarding customer inquiries.
Reports any noticeable gas leaks. (potential emergency response).
Inspects meters for DOT.
Who You Are:
Meter Reader I (0-2 years related experience).
Basic understanding of AMR process.
Basic knowledge of personal computer.
Skilled in using hand tools including screwdriver, hacksaw and awl.
Ability to walk 3 - 7 miles per day.
Ability to read and record figures accurately.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in order to handle customer situations and concerns.
Ability to do basic math to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Ability to hear to respond to internal and external inquiries.
Ability to understand and complete written and oral instructions.
Ability to see objects at close range and to see in the distance and to determine the distance and relationship between objects.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to be courteous to co-workers and customers, follow directions from supervisors and refrain from using abusive or profane language and behavior in the workplace.
Ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
Possession of a valid driver's license for the size and type of vehicle that will be driven on the job, and must have an acceptable driving record.
Ability to adhere to all policies established by Company, including the Corporation Business Ethics and Compliance Policy.
Ability to adhere to all applicable industry rules and regulations such as FERC compliance.
Must wear Company provided uniform;
Ability to hold a clipboard and record reads on meter sheets.
Must undergo random drug and/or alcohol testing with satisfactory results subject to DOT and company requirements depending on specific job duties.
Education Requirements
Education Level: High School Graduate, GED
Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:
Balancing, bending and stooping, climbing, crawling, carrying (up to 50 pounds), grasping, kneeling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), pulling hand over hand, pushing, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, walking, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement.
Mental Requirements include but are not limited to:
Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.
