Purpose

The University of Texas is a global leader in research on greenhouse gas emissions from energy systems, including oil and gas production and transmission, with several ongoing, large-scale research and demonstration projects. The university was recently awarded a major grant to provide technical assistance, training, and financial assistance to small oil and gas operators in the Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico to facilitate the reduction of methane emissions from marginal wells. We are seeking to hire a seasoned Program Director to join our team to implement this new initiative.

The Program Director will work closely with university faculty to develop a strategic implementation plan and will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, management, and coordination of activities, reports, and deliverables associated with a 5-year U.S. Department of Energy-funded project aimed at reducing methane emissions from marginal wells and gas pipelines.

ResponsibilitiesLead the integration of methane reduction technologies in collaboration with technical and field teams, including detection and measurement, to form prioritization guidelines.Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of methane emissions data before and after mitigation efforts.Determine and define project scope and objectivesEstimate resources needed to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient mannerWork with principal investigators to recruit, build, and lead a team to implement the program.Create and maintain long- and short-term workplans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlinesManage a multi-million dollar budget, ensuring the efficient allocation of funds in accordance with DOE guidelinesProvide project updates on a consistent basis to UT faculty and various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progressManage contracts with consultants, vendors, and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverablesEngage with operators, local communities, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and drive project successUtilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout project executionMonitor progress and make adjustments as neededMeasure project performance to identify areas for improvement

Required QualificationsBachelor's degree or above in engineering, business, management, finance, or a related field.8-10 years of project management and related experienceBasic knowledge of the oil and gas industryExperience working in or with the oil and gas industry and understanding of methane detection and mitigation technologiesProven analytical ability and ability to solve problems creativelyStrong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practicesExperience managing projects through the full life cycleExcellent analytical skillsExcellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience working collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholdersProven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timelinePreferred QualificationsMaster’s degree or above in engineering, business, management, finance, or a related field.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Salary Range

$165,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Typical office environment.

Frequent travel within Texas and the larger region and work outside business hours will be required.
