Supervise and coordinate activities of the Respiratory Therapy and Cardiology Departments. Administer prescriptions to patients based on physicians’ orders. Conform and maintain standards set up by IDPH, TJC, AARC and CMS. Evaluate and respond to the clinical, financial, human and business tactics required to achieve Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital’s strategic goals.
QualificationsEducation:
Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care required.Possesses a valid and active Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner license.ACLS and NRP provider or instructor certifications required within one year of hire.Healthcare Provider or Instructor BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.Experience:
Minimum of two – three years supervisory or demonstrated leadership experience required.Five ( 5) years of RT experience required.Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrates the ability to provide respiratory care and therapy to patients of all ages and conditions, including intensive care, neonatal, and pediatric patients.
ResponsibilitiesCoordinate and schedule the procedures of the sleep lab and pulmonary function testing.Consult with doctors and the medical directors of the departments when a change in therapy appears or when additional therapy is indicated. Refer any reaction to attending physician’s attention and record type of reaction on patient’s medical record.Maintain complete departmental records of types of therapies given to patients. Make monthly report for Director of Rehab Services and Accounting.Assist nursing personnel in oxygen usage, stressing safety precautions.Keep Charge Master up to date.Manage daily department operations to ensure efficiency and timeliness in provision of services by constant enforcement of inspecting agency standards.Schedule appropriate personnel to ensure proper numbers and skill levels to handle the daily workload.Perform personnel related functions including but not limited to recruitment and selection, performance reviews, counseling, disciplining, and payroll.Develop and follow the department budget.Investigate all physician, patient, and departmental complaints with involved parties and document all follow up actions taken.Serve on committees to provide technical expertise and advice as needed.Write and enforce departmental policies and procedures.Hold routine staff meetings and in-services as needed to provide staff with guidance and information to perform their duties.Ensure that staff members are practicing according to federal and state requirements.Ensure the department has the proper equipment and supplies.Initiate quality control measures and evidence based practice techniques.Facilitate department goal-setting, establish personal management goals, and assist staff with setting personal staff goals.Provide the necessary leadership and support that will remove obstacles and enable staff to perform their work efficiently and effectively.Promote and create community benefit opportunities and ensure follow thru with appropriate reporting and documentation.
