Summary Provides advanced fire, safety and security support to all non-residential and residential reentry centers within the division. Foster the corporate culture that all reentry staff are correctional workers first and committed to the highest level of performance and safety for residents, visitors and employees. Work involves developing safety and security program guidelines, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to achieve operational goals. Responsibilities Primary Duties and Responsibilities Participates in divisional audits; evaluates facility progress toward meeting divisional expectations; assists in policy development; performs special investigations upon request; and serves as a resource to Facility and Program Directors with operational needs. Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others; and provides technical guidance and direction in responding to emergency situations including escapes and resident disruptions. Ensures the safety and security of residents, visitors and employees within non-residential and residential reentry centers Prepares reports and special studies relating to policies, operating procedures, rules, and regulations. Represents the organization as necessary at the local or regional level. Prepares official responses to queries from internal or external customers from either the public or private sectors. Ensures that communications within the division are effective and appropriate. Designs and provides training for security staff in conjunction with the Continuum of Care Training Institute to ensure all annual refresher training is conducted and meets GEO and customer requirements. Conducts on-site training of local security and program staff on issues related to fire, safety, security to include, but not limited to: Discipline procedures for offenders; Facility emergency plans; Accountability and security procedures; Life safety and emergency procedures; Resident, vehicle, locker and facility searches; Suicide prevention plans; Use of force regulations and tactics; Social and cultural life styles of resident population; Basic cognitive-behavioral intervention techniques; First aid; Prevention, identification, and handling of sexual abuse/assault incidents; and Prison Rape Elimination Act Requirements. Monitors enhances security systems and procedures to achieve and maintain optimal effectiveness of operational services. Determines appropriate on-site technical assistance and provides support as needed in deficit areas. May conduct OPR related investigations as assigned to the division. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a correctional/detention facility or an equivalent combination of education and work experience required. Two (2) years of work experience should include the supervision of employees. Must possess a working knowledge of program objectives, policies, correctional laws, applicable court orders, ACA accreditation processes, procedures and requirements for managing a secure correctional or community-based reentry facility as demonstrated by having a combination of relevant work, education and research experience. Must have strong leadership ability, sound judgment, and effective administrative ability. Possesses the abilities to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely. Clearly demonstrates the ability to guide, direct and coordinate the efforts of others. Must have the requisite skills to audit and evaluate program operations and activities, review technical data and direct the preparation of or prepare technical reports. Must be able to use computers and the software typically used by the department.
