**The Role**
The candidate will manage the E14 Auxiliary Machinery group which is responsible for all mechanical engineering duties associated with multiple submarine platforms. Duties for the group include:
• Provide technically sound engineering solutions to problems from a multitude of customers to support submarine new construction and overhaul efforts at NNS and various other private and public shipyards.
• Solutions consider the 4 pillars of operational success: safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
• Subject Matter Expertise in:
o Towed array deployment and handling systems
o Weapons shipping and handling systems
o Air Turbine Pump (ATP)
o Mooring capstan
o Trash compactor, Trash Disposal Unit (TDU)
o Three inch launcher and Internal countermeasures launcher
**Must Have**
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
**Nice to Have**
• Have a full working knowledge of Fleet Support and VCS procedures and practices
• Have a substantial understanding of mechanical engineering and design principles and how they apply to shipbuilding
• Demonstrate the ability to manage their team effectively to ensure project completion on time and with appropriate technical rigor applied
• Demonstrate the ability to interface intelligently with EB, trades, suppliers, management and the customer
• Have a working knowledge of all shipyard operations including material procurement, structural fabrication, component fabrication and assembly and final outfitting, and the relationship between the four
• Communicate clearly and effectively and demonstrate strong technical writing skills
