We look forward to meeting you. **The Role** This supervisor position is intended for the Electric Power Components group in Department E70 (Propulsion Plant Planning Yard). The incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining the medium voltage Electric Plant system components on Ford Class Aircraft Carriers. This position regularly communicates with the Navy, Department Leads, Supply Chain, NNL, Engineers/Designers across Departments, and the Construction Waterfront via email, phone, and in person meetings. This position requires frequent interaction with government representatives, naval personnel, and various engineering and technical experts. Design, implement and improve electrical equipment, facilities, components, and systems on naval vessels. This includes switchgear, transformers, and power distribution from 15 KV down. Review and recommend designs and specifications in support of current and future projects. **Must Have** Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program. **Nice to Have** • Understanding of purchase order placements, material tracking, vendor management, and shipyard build schedule/sequencing. • Ability to develop and maintain standards and specifications for electrical equipment. • Ability to troubleshoot software/hardware issues. • Experience with design/operations of electrical transmission, distribution, generation, and high/medium voltage systems and components. • Experience with military specifications such as MIL-S-901D, MIL-E-917E, MIL-S-16036K, and related documents. • Familiarity with IEEE standards related to metal-clad switchgear, high voltage VCBs, metal-enclosed low voltage switchgear, and similar. • Experience with PLC programming and embedded systems software • Ability to read, analyze and design electrical schematics • Strong writing skills with the ability to write and review technical documents clearly, accurately, and with technical rigor • Shipboard experience in operation and maintenance of Navy Systems **Why HII** We build the world’s most powerful, survivable naval ships and defense technology solutions that safeguard our seas, sky, land, space and cyber.
