The Role
We are looking for an energetic team leader who will have the opportunity to influence Susceptibility and Hydrodynamic design for the next generation fast attack submarine as well as other programs. The successful candidate will lead a team of specialty engineers who perform both R&D and engineering analysis and design for non-acoustics signatures (Radar Cross Section, Infrared, Underwater Electromagnetics), Hydroacoustics, Hydrodynamics, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Responsibilities include:
• Leadership: Assign and manage projects to ensure efficient execution
• Innovation: Inspire the team in developing innovative new solutions and processes
• Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to foster the professional growth of the team
• Budget & Labor Management: Track spending and adjust team workload as required to meet budget and schedule commitments
• Communication: Communicates regularly with team, peers, management & leaders across departments, divisions, & NAVSEA via email, phone, and in person meetings.
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to support the development and presentation of technical reports and briefs to NAVSEA and other customers
• Research & Development process experience
• Strong understanding of modeling, simulation, and validation processes
• Strong understanding of ship specifications and design requirements
• Proven record for providing relevant feedback to customers
• Project management experience
• Susceptibility and ship signature management
• Hydrodynamics and CFD experience
• Coaching and mentoring experience
Aerospace engineers will be considered.
