JOB SUMMARY
Provides management and operational oversight of UVA CH laboratory to ensure quality testing, fiscal targets, and volume based staffing targets are met using established laboratory standards. Ensures laboratories adhere to quality, safety, regulatory, certification, and accreditation standards. Support team members’ continuing education and professional growth, as well as ensuring team members understand how their roles contribute to the laboratory and organization’s goals.
Job responsibilities include:
Leads (delegates) laboratory huddles Routinely rounds on laboratory team members Conducts staff meetings as necessary Actively manages staffing using rounding and workload volume reports Manages supplies and FTE expense Supports an environment of continuous process improvement Ensures laboratory resulting errors are within limits supporting quality patient care Actively participates in Laboratory Services Committees Actively participates in Laboratory Managers’ huddles and meetings Performs team member annual evaluations and related functions by deadlines Collaborates with Medical Director to identify and implement meaningful performance indicators to access testing services across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic testing processes. Educates team members on applicable standards and demonstrates consistent performance adhering to standards Ensures core competencies are uploaded and managed using MediaLab Ensures team members perform critical task competencies as required to meet accrediting agencies’ guidelines Ensures team members’ personnel files are uploaded and current as required by accrediting agencies, including diplomas and updated licenses Ensures EOC & safety rounds are conducted weekly and documented appropriately Ensures laboratories meet accrediting agencies’ safety guidelines Successfully leads and passes CAP self-inspections/biannual inspection with minimal deficiencies, and develops corrective actions for deficiencies noted during inspection Ensures all policies and procedures are uploaded and maintained in Medial Lab Ensures all regulatory checklists are uploaded into MediaLab and are responded to appropriately within defined deadlines Supports exceptional customer service and patient experience through best practice initiatives Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science or equivalent required. Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technology or MT program preferred. Graduate degree in healthcare related field preferred.
Experience: 5-7 years of relevant laboratory tech and/or leadership experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure: Technologist/Scientist certification from ASCP or AMT-MT required. (BB, C, CG, CT, H, HTL, MT/MLS, M, MB) required. Qualifies as a General Supervisor under CLIA 88 guidelines.
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: All individuals certified ASCP beginning January 1, 2004 must participate and maintain ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) through the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP). All individuals who are certified AMT beginning January 1, 2006 must participate and maintain AMT Certification Continuation Program (CCP). Qualifies as a General Supervisor under CLIA 88 guidelines. Current and future trends/practice in area of responsibility; regulatory and governing standards, policies and procedures; information systems and software used in area of responsibility; equipment used in performing assigned duties; application of safety and infection control policies and procedures; skills in interviewing and selection process; understanding of budgeting, staffing, payroll and purchasing processes; implementation of competency, feedback, development and progressive discipline processes; teambuilding, conflict management, and interpersonal relationship skills; principles of adult learning and teaching methods/models; decision making, project leadership and consultation, delegation and communication skills; understanding of customer needs and expectations and knowledge for improvement to exceed customer expectations. Prior demonstrated leadership.
Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Specialist certifications from accreditation agencies.
