Mgr Laboratory

The Atmospheric Chemistry and Air Justice Lab at ASU New College (within the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences on ASU’s West campus) seeks a highly motivated, self-directed, creative, and collaborative scientist to serve as its Lab Manager.  In this role, the Lab Manager will work closely with the lab PI to design and execute both field research and laboratory analysis protocols for field samples and environmental data that advance coupled weather can climate models, improve satellite retrievals, and support environmental justice campaigns.  The laboratory is currently engaged in three large scale collaborative research projects; the AERosols and Ocean Science Expeditions (AEROSE), the Central Arizona Phoenix Long Term Ecological Research (CAP-LTER), and the Southwest Integrated Field Laboratory (SW-IFL).  The AEROSE project involves an annual cruise – usually in the tropical Atlantic Ocean – and deployment of a mobile laboratory.  The latter two projects generate datasets that are used for expanding access to environmental data to frontline communities and in service of achieving environmental equity with respect to human and environmental health in Arizona and regional territories.  The group necessarily coordinates and collaborates with a number of scientists and students across ASU, at multiple academic institutions in the southwest US, and international organizations.

The Lab Manager will lead and coordinate daily operations of the lab that include: protocol development, instrument management, sample handling and storage, analysis of data and physical samples collected during field experiments; co-authoring grants and publications; potentially provide guest lectures in undergraduate environmental science courses; supervising laboratory staff, including undergraduate and graduate student researchers; supply ordering and inventory; lab training and oversight, and participation in scientific professional meetings an workshops on the regional and national levels.  There will also be travel opportunities associated with field deployments and execution of field projects.

The position will initially be a part-time, hourly staff position with an anticipated start date between 10/15/2024 and 12/1/2024. Hourly pay rate is dependent on experience, with associated University benefits. Unofficial transcripts may be requested during hiring process.
