Develops tests and visual aids, conducts training classes, and develops criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities. Keeps abreast of training and development research: learning theory, motivation theory, and new materials, methods, and techniques. Develops in-house programs and practices to identify developmental needs, including preparing personnel for more responsible positions and increasing effectiveness in present assignments. May evaluate and/or oversee contractors or vendors to develop and/or administer training programs. May be responsible for development of e-learning programs. This position is an assignment as a Quality Consult embedded at the UK submarine shipbuilder, BAE Systems (BAES) in Barrow-in-Furness, UK. The embedment will support the business function from this central position on the development of a number of improvement projects specific to quality and the submarine business as a whole. The position begins approximately April 2025, the initial contract period is two years, with the possibility of annual renewals thereafter. The following activities have been identified as key improvement and focus areas. Work Area Designer (WADs) -The aim is to reduce program risk and inefficiencies through adopting US relevant practices by developing the WAD operating model for BAES. Corrective Action Board (CABs) - the aim is to implement US best practice and form the operating model for a Critical Action Board structure across BAE Systems Submarines. In doing so, this would ensure issues are raised and monitored by the appropriate audience to enable visibility of resolution performance at the right level, where areas of success and support can be identified. Skills and Training Framework for Quality- The aim is to take cognizance of the US approach to the training of their Quality Inspectors and Quality Assurance Engineers by adopting relevant good practice and by developing a fit for purpose training framework for BAES Quality as a whole. This would include a bespoke and accredited qualifications for Quality with a concentrated learning and training period prior to the deployment of Quality Inspectors and Quality Assurance Engineers into their roles. Job Responsibilities: • Support with Identified Improvement Activities (IIA) project definition and contribution to any applicable business cases. • Provide detailed guidance and information for IIA primary activities to support successful delivery of IIA projects. • Support the development of Quality Skills and Training through own knowledge, expertise and experience and be the conduit for ‘reach back’ information between the US and UK. • Support the development of Quality Function to raise awareness, knowledge base and standards. • Develop a network to identify and coordinate facilitate the distribution of reach back information and experience to benefit the scope IIAs. • In conjunction with the scoped IIAs, coach and mentor members of the Quality Function to raise awareness, knowledge base and standards. • Work with applicable BAE Systems Submarines Business Functions to bring about the aims of each of the primary IIAs. • Support with the authorship, development and sponsorship attainment of any business delivery of IIA projects. • Build a strong and value added rapport across the Quality Function, in addition to utilizing the resources available in this function to support our collective goals. **Must Have** Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; Master's Degree and 2 years of relevant experience One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications: + NNS Apprentice School graduate + Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate + Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience + Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience + High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience + High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience **Nice to Have** Support with Identified Improvement Activities (IIA) project definition and contribution to any applicable business cases. Support the development of Quality Skills and Training through own knowledge, expertise and experience and be the conduit for ‘reach back’ information between the US and UK. Take own experience and knowledge to convey the US ways of working to garner support for the benefits of the IIA projects. Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in submarine quality. Ability to coach and mentor engineering & construction peers. Excellent communicator with broad and detailed knowledge of submarine quality skills. Willingness to relocate to the UK for a minimum of 2 years with the potential for extension.
