MH Supervisor Medical Imaging

Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director Diagnostic Imaging and in cooperation with the Chief Medical Director the supervisor is responsible for overseeing the clinical operational and quality management activities of the department. Exercises critical thinking skills toward decision making which effectively addresses personnel management use of resources and quality of services of medical imaging. Plans directs and coordinates the work of assigned staff who participate in providing medical imaging procedures and quality initiatives. Maintains and monitors quality improvement plan and develops monitoring systems to assist leadership in identifying improvement opportunities and establishing priorities for the department. 

Responsibilities:

Provides input in the planning and development of goals for the department. Actively participates in developing and supporting policies and procedures for the department. Advises and assists as needed on overall department policy development. Coordinates and maintains a quality indicator program and arranges for changes in the department indicators along with the Medical Director and the Director of Medical Imaging and system Director of Quality Assurance. Coordinates reporting of quality indicators and communicates results.

Interviews and makes decisions regarding new hires in a manner that supports guidelines established by Brown University Health Human Resources and the Diagnostic Imaging Director. Works with newly hired personnel to train orient and assign work to fit the new employee�s needs. Evaluates new personnel during the probationary period and determines the individual�s skill levels and potential for permanent employment. Completes onboarding competencies orientation checklists and obtains systems access for newly hired personnel.

Evaluates the day-to-day operational dynamics of the department with respect to efficiency of staff and quality of services. Uses resources and makes operational changes as necessary to optimize resources measured against demands for timely high-quality services. Recognizes operational and staffing issues early in their development and takes timely appropriate corrective action. Establishes appropriate priorities to resolve problems in the section. Updates and advises the Department Director on how problem situations may be addressed.

Evaluates the performance of assigned staff. Sets performance standards for the department in conjunction with evolving department philosophies and expectations. Initiates effective employee counseling while supporting basic HR policies and procedures.

Develops work schedules for assigned staff in a timely manner that supports evolving department and Brown University Health philosophies

Ensures the proper calibration maintenance and repair of all equipment in the department. Works with vendors and the appropriate hospital department(s) and personnel to secure records and documentation regarding equipment maintenance and calibration.

Provides on-going education for technical staff through in-service training seminars etc.

Conducts monthly department staff meetings.

Keeps current with new procedures imaging protocols equipment methods and practices. Evaluates and explores the application of new procedures for clinical use with the Medical Director while maintaining a cost-effective environment.

Implements procedures that effectively support As Low As Reasonably Allowable (ALARA) radiation protection standards.

Oversees the proper inventory supply and supply acquisition procedures of the department.

Assures proper compliance with outside regulatory agencies and maintains necessary records for review by surveyors. Including but not limited to ACR (American College of Radiology) accreditation for all modalities with ACR accreditation.

Assures compliance with MQSA/FDA breast imaging standards as well as ACR breast imaging accreditation. In addition maintains necessary records for review by surveyors.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

 

Completion of formal accredited training program in an approved School of Radiology Technology is required plus registration through the American Registry for Radiology Technologists. Or Completion of formal accredited training program in an approved School of Ultrasonography plus registration through the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonography.

A current and valid license from the Department of Health to practice in the State of Rhode Island is required *Only if RT(R)

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality patient care with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.


Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills to plan and direct operations and to effectively provide input on future goals and objectives in the department. The ability to support and interpret policies appropriately.

Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interface effectively with patients physicians patient�s family and other hospital employees.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Three or more years of supervisory experience and the ability to demonstrate enough skills and knowledge to support the scope of responsibilities outlined above.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervisory responsibility for up to 15 FTEs
