About the role

Role ensures that the laboratory has the equipment and supplies necessary to perform its role and that all mandatory microbiology and sensory sampling plans are met efficiently. 

Role coordinates with external laboratories for analysis of samples. (Packing samples, reviews reports/results)  

Prepares feedback based on results and reports to the Quality Manager.  

Provides detailed food safety advice to other departments as well as plant hygiene. Ensures the advice given is straightforward and practical to help avoid contamination of the facility’s products during production, packaging or transportation. 

Generation of timely, accurate, reliable results and reports, and ensure closure of process non-conformances by engaging relevant stake holders. 

Coordinates and conducts sensory analysis on samples.  

Ensure compliance to company equity sampling, testing and shipment of samples. 

Conduct verification and validation activities such as CCP, OPRPs and CIP. 

Housekeeping, 5S and maintaining GLP in the lab, Manage Laboratory Stock and liaise with suppliers. 

Basic maintenance of lab equipment, calibration Control of Reference Standards, Specifications used for verification/ calibration and cleaning of equipment. 

Enforcing, creating & improving quality and change procedures and standards for all incoming goods, WIP and outgoing finished goods. 

Support Customer complaint investigations if micro analysis is required.  

Role Responsibilities

Troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and support on corrective/preventative action measures. 

Support achievement of Quality KPI’s (QI, PPM Defects, Cost of Quality, Quality Incident & Isolations) 

To actively be involved in MMS and CI initiatives. 

Comply to the expenditure within the Quality budget. 

Raising and Closing CIRC Cards  

Ensure that the site is complying to GMP inspections.  

Capturing, Maintaining & Control of Records and Documentation as per the Quality Management System. 

Comply with and improve the Quality Management System and Food Safety initiatives within the area of responsibility. (SOPs, FSSC 22000, ISO 9001).  

Alert Quality Manager & Team Leader of potential quality risks and out-of-line situations. 

Communication of Quality/Food Safety performance & conformance status in operational meetings. 

Participate in third party and external compliance audits.  

An integral part of the Quality Team and a support service provision to the production operation. 

Conduct Training - Educate production staff on hygiene, aseptic techniques, and contamination control. 

Experience / skills required

2-3 years years' experience in a similar position

BSc Degree in Microbiology
