Microbiologist in Pathology
The Department of Pathology, Division of Medical Microbiology seeks qualified MD or PhD candidates to apply for a Faculty position in the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. This position is a full-time, tenure track faculty position. The Division of Medical Microbiology performs over 40,000 assays per month. In addition to standard laboratory culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, the Bacteriology Laboratory performs rapid antigen and molecular tests, MALDI-TOF MS, and sequencing for the identification of unusual pathogens. The laboratory is in the process of implementing total laboratory automation. There are full -service Mycology, Mycobacteriology and Molecular Virology Laboratories along with a cutting-edge next-generation sequencing program. Applicants must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills and willingness to work closely with clinical services. An academic interest in basic, clinical and/or translational research and the ability to develop an academic program are required. Additional responsibilities include teaching of medical students, residents and fellows. The successful applicant will hold an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a medical staff appointment in the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. MD applicants must be certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology or Clinical Pathology only, OR certified in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics AND Infectious Diseases and must be board-eligible or certified in Medical Microbiology. MD applicants must be eligible for a medical license in the State of Maryland. PhD candidates must be board-eligible or certified by the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM). For board eligible applicants, certification must be attained within two years of appointment.
