MITRE Lab’s Energy, Environmental, Material, and Chemical Sciences Department is seeking a senior engineer with expertise in microgrid technologies to work in a dynamic analytical and systems engineering environment focused on solving our customers’ energy technology and resilience challenges. This department serves as a vanguard for MITRE to meet the future needs of our customers, requiring technical excellence while encouraging creativity and fostering interests in current and emerging technologies across its diverse membership. Job Description:
Identification of microgrid technologies and their integration and/or deployment challenges through analytical, model-based (e.g., engineering models), and experimental assessmentEvaluate future microgrid technology scientific- and market-driven trends and overall limitations in unique MITRE customer environmentsAssess, identify, and propose remediation actions for energy risks, threats, and vulnerabilities for both fixed facilities and mobile microgrid applications.Execute high-risk, high-reward technology development and deployment, along with field demonstrations and energy exercises.Collaborate with transdisciplinary experts from across MITRE, our customers, and partners, providing subject matter expertise in energy resilience, energy management, and associated technologies.Design and evaluation of a wide variety of energy infrastructure and energy management technologies to determine courses of action to meet customer requirements.Frame and communicate technology performance and cost in customer applications.Manage outcome assessments that promote measuring, monitoring, and verification of advanced energy technologies in field demonstrations and operational exercises.Basic Qualifications:
BS and 5 years of relevant experience in one of the following fields: Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and/or a related Energy/Power Engineering Systems degree.Deep technical expertise in one or more microgrid technology areas, including: controls algorithms, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), network communications, power systems engineering, power electronics, energy management, energy efficiency, power generation, distributed energy resources, renewables integration, and/or energy storage.Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills.The ability to conduct research and development of new technologies to meet customer requirements in a collaborative environment with both internal and external researchers. The ability to think critically and be proactive in pursuing research and problem-solving with minimal supervision.Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a U.S. government security investigation and must be able to obtain a Department of Defense SECRET clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
MS or PhD in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and/or a related Energy/Power Engineering Systems degree.Extensive experience and expertise, including recent publications, in the design and evaluation of microgrids and microgrid component technologies.
