Position: Microsoft Systems Engineer

Job Description:

Forward Air is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Microsoft Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and supporting Microsoft-based systems, ensuring their optimal performance, security, and availability. This role requires a deep understanding of Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, and related services. The Microsoft Systems Engineer will work closely with other IT professionals to implement and maintain best practices, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the seamless integration of systems across the organization. The successful candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proactive approach to system management. Key responsibilities include managing infrastructure components, configuring and maintaining security protocols, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. This role is critical in maintaining the reliability and efficiency of our IT environment.

Core Responsibilities & Duties:

Manage and support Microsoft systems, including Windows Server, Active Directory, and Entra ID. Administer and maintain Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive. Monitor system performance, ensure optimal operation, and resolve system bottlenecks. Implement and enforce security policies, including multi-factor authentication and identity management solutions. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to Microsoft environments. Design and implement system upgrades, migrations, and integrations. Provide Tier 3 support for escalated issues and act as a technical liaison for IT projects. Develop and maintain system documentation, including configurations, procedures, and knowledge base articles. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute IT strategies. Stay updated with the latest Microsoft technologies, features, and updates. Ensure compliance with industry standards and organizational policies for data protection and system management. Manage group policies, DNS, DHCP, and other core infrastructure services. Coordinate with Microsoft support for issue resolution and service requests. Perform regular system health checks, backup, and recovery tests. Actively contribute to quality improvement programs for IT operations.

Qualifications:

5+ years of experience managing Microsoft environments, including Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365. Strong understanding of Entra ID, Group Policy, and networking concepts. Experience with Microsoft 365 services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Teams. Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and system management. Knowledge of security best practices and compliance measures. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives in a fast-paced environment. Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert are a plus. Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware) is a plus. Familiarity with monitoring tools and system performance analysis. Willingness to travel as required.
