Microsystems Integration Engineer

Job Description Summary:

The Microsystems Integration Group is seeking a microsystems engineer to apply engineering principles to the transition to production of low volume microelectromechanical (MEMS) devices. This includes Technology Readiness Level maturation of miniaturized electronic devices for research, biomedical, commercial, and national defense applications.

Experience in a laboratory environment and excellent communication and analytical skills are required. The role will support multiple interdisciplinary programs and will require a candidate who is comfortable conducting experiments, analyzing data, and presenting results. System design and experience on multidisciplinary team including vendors and external technologies is critical.

The candidate should have a background in electrical, mechanical, chemical, and/or materials engineering and have demonstrated examples of self-driven efforts in technical areas outside his/her academic training. The candidate will work in a diverse team-based environment alongside technical staff of varying levels of expertise and should be able to execute technical tasks and communicate technical matters to engineering and management. The ability to work independently and be flexible to the continuously evolving nature of research and development efforts is essential.

Roles include:
Run and supervise semi-automated microelectronic assembly tools
Design, fabricate and test high density interconnect devices fabricated with back-end-of-the-line (BEOL) technologies.
Conduct microsystems metrology including optical, acoustic, scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray, and mass spectroscopy-based analysis
Support lab organization and maintenance, such as sourcing and preparation of chemicals and materials, and calibration/maintenance of instrumentation
Troubleshoot experimental issues
The position may also feature proposal writing, business development, and work with external collaborators from government, academia, and industry. 

Qualifications
Minimum BA/BS degree in Material Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines. Advanced degrees and/or additional experience also encouraged.
Experience working with electronics and MEMS devices and supporting hardware
Working knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermal transport, and electric circuit theory
Familiarity with CAD and physical modeling tools and microfabrication technologies
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with engineers, scientists, management, and other stakeholders across all relevant disciplines
Proficiency with standard workplace and technical software such as MATLAB, Ledit, LabVIEW, Python, Solidworks, Comsol/ANSYS.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities
• Execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts to validate the performance, functionality, and durability of hardware products under the oversight of program leadership.
• Conduct thorough testing and validation of hardware products to ensure compliance with specifications, requirements and quality standards.
• Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of hardware defects and implement preventive measures for malfunctions to minimize future occurrences.
• Adapt appropriately to changes in program requirements.
• Identify challenges associated with assigned work and communicate them to project leadership.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.

Education
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field.

Experience
Requires 0-2 years of Engineering or other relevant experience.

Additional Job Description:

This position will require the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance. Minimum requirement for a security clearance is US citizenship.
