Job SummaryBattelle's Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Business Line is currently seeking candidates for a full time, permanent position as a Mid Level Chemist. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio.
Responsibilities Operate and analyze data from Thermo/Waters/Sciex/Leco mass spectrometers. Design and conduct experiments utilizing a variety of mass spectrometry analysis techniques; determine appropriate acceptance criteria, conduct technical data reviews, analyze and interpret data collected, form conclusions, and write/review technical correspondence and technical reports.Troubleshoot complex laboratory problems; provide new perspectives to existing solutions. Contribute to technology development research to improve existing capabilities. Develop innovative testing and/or analysis methods to improve results and/or the efficiency of the process.Collaborate across job functions and scientific disciplines to adjust analytical approaches accordingly.Key Qualifications Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience, Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience, or PhD with 1+ years of experience. Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry and data processing with various software, with an emphasis on high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS).Must understand the principles of mass spectrometry (MS and MS/MS) and ionization methodologies for large and small molecules.Proven experience with operation, calibration, and maintenance of MS instruments and interpretation of data.Proficient in standard wet chemistry sample extraction and cleanup techniques.Problem solving skills based on understanding of raw data.Incumbent must successfully pass medical screening, including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) and work with highly hazardous materialsIncumbent will be subject to a government security investigation and must have the ability to obtain/maintain a security clearanceMust be US Citizen
Preferred Qualifications Experience with trace quantitative chemical analysis.Experience with Non-Targeted Analysis (NTA) and Suspect Screening Analysis (SSA) using HRMS and computational tools to detect and identify unknown or suspected chemicals.Experience analyzing omics data sets, including proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics, using bioinformatic tools.Knowledge of Thermo, Waters, Sciex and Leco instruments.
