Mid-Level Structural Engineer (Substation Projects) Job Summary

POWER Engineers is seeking an experienced, energetic, self-starting team member with a strong structural engineering background to perform engineering design activities for electrical substations. This position is in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Columbus office located in New Albany, Ohio. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).

ResponsibilitiesAll aspects of substation structural design including preparation of steel performance drawings, fabrication drawings and foundation designDevelopment of steel and concrete construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals and project schedulesUnderstand and incorporate typical structural code requirementsCoordination with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation designPreparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirementsPerform QA/QC for deliverables to clientsSupport Project Manager and Project Engineer with project reporting needsSupport proposal developmentSupport the mentorship and training of other team membersShall understand and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designsOccasional travel will be requiredRequired Education/ExperienceAbility to function as a Structural Engineer in the Columbus location of our Substation Business UnitBSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering) degree from an accredited college3+ years of experience in structural engineeringSuccessful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) ExamMechanical reasoning skills and attention to detailFinite Element modeling experience; Risa3D or STAAD ProFamiliarity with structural analysis, concrete design, steel design, soil mechanics and foundation designDemonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and sizeAbility to perform calculations to size steel structures and concrete foundationsProven ability and desire to mentor and help othersStrong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnelLegally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorshipDesired Education/ExperienceFive (5) or more years of experience in structural engineeringSeismic design experienceExperience with RISA, MathCAD, LPile, and STAAD are beneficialProfessional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure and ability to obtain licensure in multiple statesAbility to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules
