**MIG Welder** **Job Description** As a Welder, you will examine welds for specifications, apply filler rods, clean or degrease weld joints, repair broken parts, prepare surfaces for welding, chip off excess weld, preheat work pieces, and position and clamp work pieces together. Daily use of blueprints and measurement tools to verify fabrications. **Responsibilities** + Strike arc to generate heat and melt metal from electrode to work piece. + Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement. + Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions. + Examine weld for bead size and other specifications. + Apply filler rod manually to supply weld metal. + Clean or degrease weld joint or work piece. + Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes. + Prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces. + Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter. + Preheat work piece with hand torch or heating furnace. + Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture. + Tack assemblies together. **Essential Skills** + Experience with blueprints (preferred) + MIG welding experience (1+ years manually welding) + Basic understanding of welding fundamentals + Experience with stainless, mild, or carbon steel + Positive attendance history + Assembly and structural welding + Proficiency with measuring tools **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Experience working in a manufacturing environment + Eagerness to learn + Experience with hand and power tools + Comfortable working in a non-temperature controlled environment + Open to overtime + Availability for 1st shift **Why Work Here?** This is a family-owned company with locations in Illinois and Michigan. It is a relatively clean, medium-sized facility. **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract position based out of Altamont, Illinois. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
