MIIPS Academic Advisor - Integrated Innovation Institute

The Integrated Innovation Institute at Carnegie Mellon University breaks down the silos that impede innovation. We believe that by uniting the disciplines of engineering, design, and business, we can build impactful solutions that create value for real people.

We are searching for a motivated Academic Advisor to support “Master of Integrated Innovation for Products & Services” students at the Integrated Innovation Institute.   This role will collaborate with our faculty Program Director to support academic needs and milestones for MIIPS students. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with high attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills to support a variety of student needs.  This role will report directly to the Director of Operations. 

Core responsibilities include:

Connecting and advising with students with questions regarding registration, curriculum, and related issues and/or directs students to appropriate contacts or resources.

Supporting students through academic and personal challenges that may impact their CMUiii experience and academics.

Onboarding incoming MIIPS cohorts (emails, OIE requests, group registration meetings)

Conducting 1:1 advising meetings, weekly drop-in office hours, and other meeting types as needed to support MIIPS student throughout the year.

Maintaining student records, preparing documents for graduation and associated databases for iii-degree audits/Stellic (University system). 

Preparing reports and provides information to faculty, advisor, or other departments (i.e., student status, course placement, major declarations, transfer credit review, enrollment, etc.).

Managing annual review of curriculum resources, academic audits, and supporting documents (syllabi templates, Student Handbook, Degree Progress Forms, etc.)

Collaborating with III and CMU resources to support of MIIPS students career goals (faculty, alumni, staff, CPDC)

Attending weekly seminar sessions (Fridays) to support Program Director and strengthen MIIPS student community.

Designing and participating in all MIIPS student events throughout the year (ex: orientation, graduation, graduate student appreciation week, etc.)

Communicating through Slack, email templates (ex. MIIPS Weekly Digest) or other resources to reach MIIPS students.

Connecting with others who support graduate students in the CMU community

Managing all Pittsburgh based, graduate student clubs and groups (GSA reps) and III Peer Mentor Program.

Liaising with key departments throughout campus for student needs – OIE, CPDC, CaPs, SLICE, Graduate Student Offices.

Other duties as assigned.

Self-motivation with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.

Eagerness to learn new project management tools, such as Monday.com.

Enthusiasm and enjoyment engaging with others.

The ability to be highly personable and supportive of graduate students’ well-being, while maintaining boundaries for iii processes and CMU policies.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree required (masters degree preferred)

1-3 years of higher education experience preferred (not required)

1-3 years of experience working in a team environment with various communication tools - email, calendars, Slack, etc.
