Newport News Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing, providing intensive residential and acute treatment, for males and females ages 8-21. Job Summary Milieu Facilitators primary responsibilities will be to help patients learn to live independently and/or reintegrate into society. You will assist Mental Health Technicians in understanding and managing the needs of residents and the established level system. Provide in-service training to all unit staff, both in the unit specific orientation and the facility-wide orientation for Mental Health Technician (MHT) and Lead MHT in response to evolving standards of quality and regulatory requirements. In on-going consultation with Clinical Director, DON, and Program Director, monitor unit activities and daily interactions between Lead MHTs and MHTs with the residents. In order to insure safety and consistency in treating the residents, the Milieu Facilitator will responsibly encourage a team approach to therapeutic interventions. You may assist with day-to-day activities and act a role model for positive interpersonal relationships with others. As an important member of the treatment team, you will set appropriate boundaries for residents. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an inpatient psychiatric or substance abuse setting. Prefer one (1) year experience working and/or treating adolescents. Upon hire must be credentialed in the following areas: CPR, First Aid and Handle with Care. A strong ability to train is preferred. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. 80-90% of the time, the incumbent is standing, walking, kneeling, or reaching while working with patient.
