Job SummaryTo install, remove and repair machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints and specifications using hoists, lifts and hand and power tools; move machinery and equipment; and to adjust, align and assemble machinery and equipment, using squares, rules, levels and micrometers.Assemble, install, disassemble and repair machinery and mechanical equipment, such as refrigeration equipment, cooling towers, air handling and exhaust systems, including component equipment and fixtures, carillon and clock mechanisms, special scientific equipment, presses, computer consoles, milling machines, vehicle washers, conveyors, gate and door opening mechanisms and hydraulic dock and electric lifts.Dismantle large mechanical units to gain access and remove defective parts using hoists, jacks, dollies, rollers, scaffolding, chainfalls or other rigging.Replace or repair defective devices including fume hoods, gear boxes, motors, conveyors, subassemblies, automatic and manual controls, gauges, valves, fans, and component parts such as gears, bearings, shafts, belts, pulleys, cables and chains.Inspect the condition of parts and determine dimensional requirements, using rulers, calipers, and other measuring instruments, including the use of micro-measurement tools in the fabrication, fitting and assembly of close tolerance parts.Adjust, align and reset functional devices and component parts and start mechanical equipment.Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.Prepare sketches and specifications of components to be fabricated.Fabricate, assemble, install, repair and modify structures, such as ducts, machine guards, brackets, roof gutters, tanks, fan and filter housings and garage and overhead doors.Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, millers, shapers, planers, drill presses, grinders, saws, routers and other hand, power and specialty tools such as hydraulic bearing pullers and run-out gauges.Mission StatementMichigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally.
