The Opportunity:
The Millwright apprentice will work closely with various mentors and subject matter experts within the Maintenance Department to diligently hone skills required to successfully complete and pass the Provincial certification exam. As part of Maple Leaf Food’s Maintenance team, the individual will be responsible for maintaining and servicing equipment used in the facility for the daily production of our products. Furthermore, they will ensure safe plant operations and a safe working environment for all employees.
Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
•Must be able to install, troubleshoot, and repair complex production equipment with supervision
•Enhance equipment performance, recommending improvements and implementing.
•Must be able to troubleshoot and identify mechanical problems
•Operate production equipment and check performance as required
•Strong on PM (preventative maintenance) procedures in a 24 hour/day operation
•Ensure all job-related operations are in compliance with GMPs, HACCP, WHMIS and health & safety requirements.
Required to support members of the Maintenance team on a host of projects throughout the facility.
• Demonstrate competency in approaching matters of preventative maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, mechanical systems and coordination of work and required resources.
• Must fulfil all areas delineated by the competency guidebook provided by the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities.
• Attend day release schooling over a span of several years in order to achieve all academic requirements to write certification exam within allotted timeframe.
• Adhere to all safety policies, practices, procedures at all times.
•Perform other duties as assigned
What You’ll Bring: Must presently be enrolled with the Ontario College of Trades as an apprentice, possessing a valid training agreement and affiliated contract agreement number. Must have some hand tools, Knowledge of plant and equipment operations Ability to organize and plan daily tasks with supervision. Ability to work in a team based environment. Good mathematical, analytical and problem solving skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Must be capable of passing all related testing and maintaining required course average.
• Must be able to travel to attend school placement and training offsite.
• Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School Diploma or GED (proof required at time of application).
• Superior attendance and performance record. Available for weekend overtime as production demands require Able to lift up to 60lbs Standing & walking 95% of the time
