Mine Engineer

Responsibilities & Duties:

Mine engineering for the safe and efficient operation of assigned sites  Developing short and long range mine plans Mine design Working with operations to address immediate issues not anticipated by mine plan Maximize yield and recovery at lowest cost Tracking progress against planned production. Developing and completing goals for personal and business growth and development

This position will also:  develop production improvement projects; plan capital projects and budgets; design, procure and implement modifications to quarry systems, equipment, structures, processes and systems in alignment with and in support of Operations; and they will also be involved with daily operations, including regular management of contractors and supervision of hourly crews, as needed. 

The Mine Engineer has the organizational freedom and authority to develop, recommend and implement continuous improvement projects. They also have responsibility and authority to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformity relating to the quarry process, or to the quality system.

The Mine Engineer has the authority to identify and the responsibility to record any problems related to safety, the environment, the product, process, or system and to recommend or provide solutions with support of their manager and the Director of Mining Engineering.  When solutions have been presented to and agreed to with Site management and are implemented, the Engineer has the responsibility to verify the implementation of those solutions.

The Mine Engineer is responsible for multiple sites. Domestic travel is required for the position, up to 30%.  This position is eligible for a flexible travel-work schedule after a training period per Carmeuse policy.

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering from an accredited college or university Minimum of 5 years’ experience (years of experience required at the time of posting based upon various factors) performing mining engineering duties at either an underground or surface operation. Additional Requirements: Must possess the ability to address environmentally sensitive situations. Possesses a safety focus and proactive attitude towards mine safety. Experience working with regulatory authorities at various levels of government to include MSHA, EPA, and other applicable Federal, State, and local government agencies. Experience managing teams with diverse skills and education levels. Experience with cost/benefit implications and making sound decisions accordingly. Exposure to non-typical mining methodologies, varying mining conditions, and process plant feed requirements. Acumen for the execution and administration of contract agreements.

Ability to travel up to 30% domestically with some international travel.
