This position will ensure regulatory and inter-company procedural compliance and will generate competent, workable and safe mine designs and plans and measure performance and effectiveness of existing designs and systems. This position will ensure the engineering department works safely, striving to achieve zero harm to people and property. They will be reporting to the Mine Technical Services Superintendent.
PurposeTo provide clarity and focus for the engineering group to achieve and surpass the mine’s safety and production targets and to add value to the operation. Develop high confidence mine plans based on historical performance. To grow the people in the engineering group through performance review, training, guidance, and mentoring to reach their maximum potential
Essential DutiesPromoting Safety and Sustainability
Align with Fatality Risk Management protocols at all sitesPromote innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing engineering designs and new designsReview plans and designs for regulatory compliance and compliance to Company policies, procedures and standardsPromote and adhere to Company environmental and sustainability policiesMine Planning and Mine Design
Complete and review mid-term mine planning and mine design to increase value to operationDevelop budget mine plan and support company business planning exerciseDevelop high confidence quarterly forecasts to support mine production Optimize grade control and minimize dilution through effective incorporation of geological data and tasks in mine planLiaise with Geotech team and incorporate guidance into mine planProvide guidance to operating departments to maximize production, plan their activities and accurately measure key mining parametersManage consultants and contractors on engineering projectsStrategic Planning
Maintaining, reporting and monitoring of production statistics and performance to ensure the property’s goals and objectives are achievedParticipate in Business Planning exercise at the senior management level, providing guidance on LOM options to increase value and optimize use of resourcesProvide support to exploration teams to ensure targets are appropriately scheduled and incorporated into the mine planSupport reserve and resource calculations as required by the corporationTraining & Experience A Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent engineering degreeRegistered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and in good standing order with PEO, or equivalent in other jurisdictions Prior leadership experience would be considered an assetBe technically competent and have a good understanding of key business drivers for gold miningStrong Deswik skillsStrong understanding of geologic influence on mine plan confidenceHave strong communication and people skillsBe focused, clear and decisiveAble to impact and influence in order to gain the alignment of the engineering and operating teamsAbility to effectively establish priorities and accordingly delegate work to engineering staffWorking ConditionsThis position supports our Borden Mine in Chapleau, ON.
Work schedule is 4 days on 3 days off.
