Dimensions
Number and Titles of Persons/Areas Supervised:
Responsible for directing and controlling the Mine Maintenance activities. Supervise maintenance coordinators, and help in achievement of department’s objectives. Indirectly oversee maintenance supervisors, planners, technicians, and hourly staff.
Purpose
The Mine Maintenance General Foreman assumes responsibility for directing and controlling the Mine Maintenance activities to ensure efficiency throughout.
Essential Duties
1. Conduct safety meetings, staff meetings and safety inspections.
2. Respond to emergencies that could cause injury or loss to production.
3. Monitor and review costs. Establish and maintain budgets.
4. Oversees maintenance activities such as work orders schedules, preventative maintenance, equipment repairs, maintenance tools, employee vacations and training.
5. Interview prospective employees and conduct department orientation for new hires.
6. Communicate department status with supervision and interface with other departments.
7. Communicate verbally and in writing, any job related problems, job status and work history pertaining to the job.
8. Review staff and hourly employees’ performance.
9. Communicate/cooperate with vendors.
10. Ensure department’s compliance with the requirement of Government of Suriname’s Agencies, Surgold’s lending institutions, shareholders’ environmental, health and Safety legislation and company regulations.
11. Assist in developing departmental and Company procedures and policies. Administer corrective action. Enforce departmental and Company policy. Enforce governmental laws and environmental compliance.

Training & Experience
• The Mine Maintenance General Foreman is required to have twelve (12) years of experience in open pit mining and mining development with increasing levels of responsibility
• Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geology, Civil Engineering or related discipline would be considered an asset.
Working Conditions
• The Mine Maintenance General Foreman must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
• The Mine Maintenance General Foreman must wear personal protective equipment including steel toe shoes, safety glasses, earplugs, long sleeved shirts, or any other equipment to perform duties safely.
