Job DescriptionThe Mine Overseer is accountable for the planning, coordination and effective implementation of mining and all related activities to ensure the achievement of operational objectives arising out of the business and mining strategy.
KEY RESULTS AREAS:
The Mine Overseer has the legal accountability with a 2.14.1 and a 2.13.12 appointment in terms of the MHSA section 26 of 1996.After safety, the main purpose of the role is to develop and execute the day to day shift plan utilising their knowledge of the mechanized development cycle to ensure the effective deployment of resources to achieve the shift plan.Interpret execution methodologies, and contribute towards development of those, for mining activities and construction related activities.Develop framework to conduct risk assessments on all the work to mitigate potential hazards and risksContribute to a framework to derive safe working standards and procedures for all mining and construction related activities.Contribute to development of functional roles and responsibilities for all personnel for mining and related construction.Assume legal responsibilities for owner underground team during training.Quality control and quality assurance safe working procedures.Short term scheduling of mining and construction activities.Interpreting the mining designs and plans, annual mining plan requirements and mining results to develop a short-term mining plan.Setting priorities and the management and coordination of operational activities to train personnel for achievement of required mining targets safely.Reviewing and regulating the commitment of resources within the mining area to optimise the safety, efficiency of operations, and achievement of overall objectives and sustained profitability of the mining production areas.Transparent reporting on the performance of the production training mining crews and progress towards achievement of all targets to senior leadership.Pursue and drive a culture of zero harm and ensure all aspects of the work are completed in adherence to the De Beers’ Safety, Health, Security and Environmental standards and systems.Ensures compliance with all legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and best practices.Review progressive mining output information and statistics, and investigate and action deviations to ensure attainment of the mining plan within the stipulated timeframes.Manage the investigation and development of mining resources to allow for continuous improvement in terms of efficiency and unit cost.Provide inputs and feedback on development of technical standards and systems to build effective operational support for achievement of development mining targets.Manage, lead, control and motivate team in area of responsibility.Ensure appropriate capability within the team to perform all tasks efficiently and effectively and oversee identified training and development activities of staff.Managerial authority: Assign tasks to team members and review their performance within allocated areas.Monitoring authority: Observe and/or gain information about the work of specified employees, and those employees are held accountable to provide reasonable information and/or access.QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Education & Experience)
Grade 12 / N3 / Equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.Mine Overseer’s Certificate of Competence for Scheduled Mines.Proven track record of excellent production performance.Mine Overseer 2.14.1 and 2.13.12 appointment.Blasting Certificate for Underground Hard Rock, or equivalent.A Supervisory qualification would be advantageous.Code EB Driver’s License.Computer Literacy.Valid First Aid Certificate.Medical Certificate of Fitness to work underground.Your consideration for employment is subject to your SAPS Criminal Record verification and qualifications verification. At least ten years mining experience at metalliferous minesMinimum of 5 years underground mining experience, which MUST be in a mechanised mining development environment.Minimum of 3 years underground supervisory experience as a appointed Mine OverseerIn-depth knowledge and experience of:Trackless Mining machinery and trackless mining best practises.Underground mining practices and related operations environment.Safety, Health and Environmental Legislation and standards applicable to underground mining.Understanding of the mechanised development cycle.SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES:
