Mine Service Assistant

Dimensions Purpose

Mine Services Assistant is primarily responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mine pumps and pumping systems.  Mine Services Assistant will be responsible for the execution of dewatering plans set by Mine Engineering and executed by Mine Services.
All work must be completed in a safe and efficient manner while continuously aligning daily mine services functions to reflect Newmont values. Operate in a safe and efficient manner, causing the least wear and/or damage to the pumping equipment and mine property; maintaining the highest level of productivity, when executing mine services tasks and projects. Which may include, dewatering tasks and other various mine projects work. 
 

Essential Duties

Mine Services Work Execution

Execute the dewatering plans given by mine engineering and mine operationsPerform and support the execution of all mine services works with other Newmont employees and business partners, interfacing with other departments ensuring timely execution of the tasks you have been allocatedStart and end timelyWork without risk or harm to self and others.Practice quality works under direction, ask questions when an instruction is not clear.Communicate and provide work status handovers to incoming Equipment Operators and other Mine Services Assistants.Communicate with the Dispatcher regarding hazards encountered to provide sufficient information to the incoming Operators and other Mine Services Helpers for the smooth running of Operations.Consistently exercises discretion and judgement in job performance.

Pump Relocations /Pump Installations / Road Construction/Maintenance 

Organize and set up or assist in the setup of pit dewatering systems.Monitor and ensure Pumps are working as effectively and efficiently as possible with through monitoring of suction and discharge lines and flow meters Report any equipment malfunctions or service requirements to the Supervisor at before, during or after the shift.Duties include but not limited to, basic maintenance of the pumps, lubricating machinery, ensuring pump supply/discharge hose are intact and functioning properly, by visually inspecting the set up and discharge of pumping systems.Operate dewatering pumps, fusing machines and hand tools, fuse HDPE PipesInspect visually and listen to machinery and equipment to diagnose the cause of malfunctions.Ensure day to day tasks and instructions in operating equipment and maintenance are completed.Meet and established performance expectations set by management.
 Training & Experience

Knowledge:

Secondary School / Technical Diploma/Trades Degree/ Technical Training CertificateHave basic knowledge of mechanical system and demonstrated ability to perform and document a thorough pre-operational inspection to evaluate mechanical condition of pumps and other mobile equipment.Pumps, Pumping system, Road Construction, Road Maintenance, Mobile Crusher, Project execution knowledge and expertise (desirable)Knowledge of mine services works techniques and equipmentUnderstanding of open pit mining operations.Knowledge in mid-to-heavy equipment operation.

Skills and Abilities: 

Demonstrate good work ethic.Commitment to personal safety. Clear understanding of connection with personal work assignment and accomplishment of group goals.  Ability to work collaboratively with others and see work through completion.  Ability to learn and comprehend new concepts and new work processes. Basic Computer skills and knowledge of equipment required to complete work. Solid level communication skills ability to read write and complete forms for as required for job.Sranang Tongo, Dutch and/or English language skills are required. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license appropriate to the requirements of the vehicle being driven.
 Working Conditions The position is located on the Merian mine site in Suriname, working in the open mine maintenance workshop and performing maintenance in the mine operations area outdoors in all types of weather including high ambient heat and tropical rainfall.The equipment operator mine services must wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, respirators, earplugs, long sleeved shirts, gloves, or any other equipment to perform duties safely.The Mine Services Assistant may occasionally be asked to work outside a normal work schedule.The Mine Services Assistant may be required to operate a light vehicle which includes a pre-operational inspection. Walk on rough, uneven, inclined, wet terrain, and climb stairs and ladders and has exposure to noise, dust and silica.Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment;Accommodation is in a man camp/village environment near the workplace;Position may require traveling to and/or assisting of other domestic and international sites.
