The Software Engineering Innovation Center and the Software Wellness Innovation, Facilitation, and Technology Department (L53A) is seeking a visionary thought leader to expand and shape our work program, personnel, and facilities in Colorado Springs (and potentially the west coast). In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in supporting, shaping, and growing initiatives that leverage MITRE Innovation Center's core competencies, including Software Engineering, Cyber Technologies, and Systems Engineering. You will drive the evolution of organizational outcomes and strategy, identify and capture new opportunities, and spearhead innovation. Additionally, you will provide thought leadership, technical guidance, and mentorship across diverse domains and technologies.

Roles & Responsibilities:

MITRE Labs Liaison to Colorado SpringsHelp grow and shape the MITRE Colorado Springs work program through collaboration with MITRE Labs Innovation Centers, MITRE National Security and Public Sectors, and sponsor organizationsUnderstand key sponsor needs and collaborate across MITRE to deliver mission impactSoftware Wellness Practitioner and Team Lead for high-value, high-impact engagementsLead teams on key engagements, including mentorship, technical oversight, customer engagement, and work-shapingContribute technical subject matter expertise for key engagementsDrive new software wellness investments, key research areas, and new lines of investigationThought leader in one or more of the following strategic focus areas: software engineering, software development lifecycle, software/system architecture, artificial intelligence (AI), and software supply chainImpact sponsor work programs at a strategic level through direct contributions, influence, and strategic work shapingContribute externally to the software engineering ecosystem via publishing, presenting, and/or developing new concepts and approachesWork with other key members of the organization to shape the department’s strategy and focusMentor other technical staffPartner with Project Leaders to develop opportunities for staff across the Software Engineering Innovation CenterCreate new opportunities for the organizationWork with sponsors and project leads to understand their needs and future visionDemonstrate technical stature via position papers, publications, and proposalsFormulate innovative approaches for technology transition to sponsors, MITRE’s internal IR&D program, or external grants.

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; 10 years of related experience with a Master's degree; 7 years of related experience with a PhD; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experienceExperience managing projects and/or experience as a direct supervisor/group leadActive Secret clearanceExperience developing work programs, shaping work programs, and creating program relationships10+ years of experience working in modern software languages such as Python, Java, C/C++, and/or JavaScriptExperience working with large, complex software systems and key software engineering processes (technical debt management, agile development, system architecture, legacy modernization, etc.)Technical stature in software engineering and/or software architecture topics, including publications, presentations, and/or patentsThis position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

Active Top Secret clearanceMaster’s, PhD, or other advanced degree in computer science, software engineering, or related fieldDemonstrated success in the capture of research fundingExperience supporting the delivery of complex systems to government or industry customers
