Job Summary: Under the supervision of a medical technologist, performs a variety of laboratory tests, many of which are complex, involve numerous steps and techniques and require use of professional judgment. Tests may be performed in hematology, coagulation, clinical chemistry, microbiology, blood bank and urinalysis. Professional application of the principles, theories and techniques of medical technology are used to produce reliable test results that aid the physician in diagnosis and treatment.
Minimum Requirements: At least one of the following education and/or experience qualifications is required: Associate's degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program including courses in chemistry and/or biology, Associate's degree of at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) including six hours of chemistry and six hours of biology and five years full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience within the last seven years, Associate's degree of at least 60 semester hours and graduation from a Military Medical Laboratory Specialist program, or Associate's degree of academic credit from an accredited college including six hours of chemistry and six hours of biology and CLA (ASCP) certification. Must be currently registered or eligible for registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technician. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care in his/her assigned department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/ area's/ department's policies and procedures.
