<h2><b>Overview</b></h2><div><div><div><p>Responsible for performing and reporting assigned laboratory tests to provide diagnostic data for the treatment and/or diagnosis of disease. Must be licensed MLT through appropriate agencyand have 5 years experience. Meets all requirements of MLT II. Under the direct supervision of a section supervisor responsible for the assigned shift as scheduled. Incumbents are subject to overtime and call back by the department as designated by the hospital. </p></div></div></div>ResponsibilitiesPerforms routine and special laboratory tests in designated areas of the laboratory.
Demonstrates competence in all areas of assigned cost center plus demonstrated special competence in a discipline within their cost center.
Evaluates and reports test results as instructed by test procedure or section procedure including calling critical values.
Performs reagent and instrument quality control and records results, and reports problems to supervisory personnel as instructed in procedures and assists in resolving them.
Performs and maintains records of preventive maintenance on assigned instruments.
Inventories, receives and stores supplies for assigned areas and prepares reagents as needed.
Obtains specimens from patients for laboratory procedures.
Contributes to the positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department Pour-over and transport hazardous flammable waste (alcohols, xylene, and stains) to the hazardous waste drum collection area on the lab dock as needed.
Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
EDUCATION: Skill and proficiency in the technical field of Medical Laboratory Technology as acquired through a two year Associate of Science Degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Professional/Technical continuing education (independent study) of not less than 12 CE hours annually (as required by State of Tennessee licensure).
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: Tennessee licensure as a Medical Laboratory Technician, registered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or the equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Five years experience, one at JMCGH. Knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures normally acquired by 3 months to one year of on the job training and orientation.
