The Mobile Medic, Advanced (Medic) works closely with the after-hours Dedicated virtual care team providers and nurses to deliver a full scope of in-home health care services to patients. Under the provider’s direction, the incumbent provides a wide range of urgent and acute clinical interventions to patients in their homes.

This is a full-time position. Scheduled hours are expected to be Saturdays and Sundays (10-12 hours per day) and then roughly 20 hours in the afternoons during the work week. This is an hourly position that is paid for the hours the medic is on shift, regardless of usage. Must have fixed availability on the weekends & afternoons during the week. This position is paid for 40 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

With provider guidance and direction, conducts one-on-one advanced, in-home health assessments with senior patients. This includes documenting vital signs and measuring relevant physical attributes as well as identifying cognitive, functional, medication and social challenges impacting patient’s health.

Communicates health updates with the provider and virtual care team. Facilitates care plan execution and design to keep patient home, happy, and healthy, when able.

Prepares patients for virtual examinations; performs routine screenings, including vitals, weight, EKG, etc. Assists provider with exams and explains treatment procedures and providers' instructions to patients, including facilitating video visits.

Prepares and administers medications including IM and IV, changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and other first aid procedures. Performs CPR when necessary.

Performs non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures based on medical instructions. Collects phlebotomy and other lab specimens; performs basic Point of Care lab tests.

Interacts with EMS and emergency department personnel as necessary and with expediency, to coordinate emergency care for any presentation warranting an immediate trip to the hospital or advanced life support services.

Creates and records detailed clinical documents for each patient, noting all medications, allergies, and medical conditions presenting. Documents contact information for each family member or friend serving as emergency contact.

Documents and reports findings/actions to ensure encounters are accurately recorded and received by the provider as soon as administratively possible. Provides recommendations to provider within scope of license to address/reduce health risk.

Maintains home visit supplies, equipment and stocks. Sterilizes instruments, practices OSHA safety standards, practices accurate, legal and ethical documentation at all times.

As defined by Florida statutes and pursuant to medical protocols, policies and procedures set by the provider, administers appropriate patient care at the EMT/Paramedic skill level in emergency medical situations.

Reports cases of neglect or abuse to Adult/Child protective services. Contacts law enforcement when appropriate.

Educates seniors on aging and disability resources and other applicable social services. Recommends to provider and care team needed mental health interventions, leveraging community resources whenever possible. Coordinates fire rescue units, police and other community agencies making home visits.

Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Advanced paramedic knowledge, skills and abilities in patient care and emergency response; resourceful in emergencies, with ability to direct and command personnel.

Comprehensive knowledge of and familiar with community resources and social services available to help improve the health and wellbeing of patients.

Comprehensive knowledge of and familiar with the definition of neglect and abuse for a vulnerable adult; must know how to report cases of neglect and abuse to APS and Law Enforcement.

Comprehensive knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance standards.

Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (her) systems.

Familiarity with Primary Care pathways and chronic disease management.

Exceptional interpersonal, customer service, conflict resolution, problem-solving, listening and communication skills.

Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Personal agility and adaptability; comfortable working through ambiguity that stems from an entrepreneurial environment.

Skilled in phone, business systems and medical equipment operation

Meticulous to ensure accuracy of reports and data.

Superb teamwork capabilities to coordinate efforts and work toward achieving the best outcome for the patient.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, competent in other systems required for the position.

Ability and willingness to travel locally and regionally up to 100% of the time.

Spoken and written fluency in English; bilingual Spanish desired.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:

High School diploma or equivalent required

A minimum of 1 year work experience as a Paramedic required OR new Paramedics with at least 1 year of EMT work experience in public health or other health-related fields may be considered in lieu of paramedic experience.

Current unrestricted Paramedic state license required.

This position requires possession and maintenance of a current, valid Driver’s License AND a reliable means of personal transportation to be used for transporting self, as well as company provided supplies and equipment during home visits.

Must live and/or work in the location as defined by the job posting.

Community paramedic certification (CP-C) strongly preferred.

Experience in telemedicine or virtual care delivery strongly preferred.

Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AMA) or American Red Cross required w/in first 90 days of employment.

ALS certification preferred.
