Mobile Phlebotomist I

Collects clinical laboratory specimens and performs tasks associated with patient registration, order entry and specimen processing with general supervision. Performs waived testing with general supervision. Provides logistical support to team members and general assistance to customers. Excessive travel required in various weather conditions to nursing homes and home draws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Performs venipunctures at HNL clients and home draw locations. Collects other specimens and explains the proper collection procedures for specimens provided by the patient. Clarifies orders and pre-analytical test requirements when appropriate.

Excessive travel required in various weather conditions to nursing homes and home draws.

Performs registration; requisitions lab orders and verifies billing information.

Makes accurate, initial assessment of specimen suitability according to criteria outlined in the laboratory handbook and department standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Travels to various locations (nursing homes, home draw sites, etc.) to perform specimen collection.

Processes, stores and transports specimens according to the laboratory handbook and SOPs.

Responds to customer inquiries for information regarding specimen requirements and testing schedules.

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of changes in specimen requirements and collection devices.

Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and ensures a meticulous work area.

Provides on-call and mobile services as required.

Assists in the orientation and training of new staff members.

Reports collection statistics, patient wait times and patient satisfaction surveys as required.

Participates in the Continuous Service Improvement and continuing education programs.

Properly records and documents necessary expense reimbursement (Mileage Reimbursement) following established electronic processes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 6 months to 2 years related experience and/or training preferred. Phlebotomists are placed in levels I, II or three based on experience and performance

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently may be required based on service location.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software.

Certificates and Licenses:

A valid driver’s license from the state that the employee resides as well as a clean driving record. Must be accessible to appropriate and reliable transportation to perform essential duties and responsibilities.
