Mobility Technician
**UPMC Hamot is hiring a Mobility Technician to join 8 South Neurology!** **Hours: Monday- Friday 7am-3:30pm** Overview: The Mobility Tech is responsible for routinely mobilizing patients within their assigned departments, following established policies and procedures, and working under the direction of an interdisciplinary team (Nurse, Physical/Occupational Therapy, and Physician). Duties include helping patients walk, assisting them to chairs for meals, using lifts for bed-bound patients, monitoring vital signs, applying telemetry, and assisting with basic needs like filling water pitchers, helping to the restroom, and setting up meal trays. _Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience._ **Responsibilities:** + Suggests and supports changes within the unit. Takes responsibility for assignments and views problems as challenges. + Demonstrates awareness of the impact of behavior on unit efficiency. + Supports department projects and quality initiatives. Reports equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department. + Develops and maintains productive relationships with patients and colleagues through accountability, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment. + Provides patient care, including assisting with daily ambulation based on individual patient needs. + Collaborates with Rehabilitation Services and Nursing Staff to ensure proper patient ambulation. + Requests assistance in planning and prioritizing activities as needed. + Participates in self-review as requested by the Transport supervisor. Communicates clearly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team. + Understands cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in healthcare professions. Supports safety in the workplace for patients and self. + Establishes effective communication with other departments. + Builds professional and respectful relationships with staff, patients, and family members. + Receives feedback and direction constructively. Identifies and communicates learning needs to the Transport supervisor. + Takes action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance. Notifies RN of any changes in patient condition. + Contributes to unit activities, such as responding to call lights, answering telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients. + Documents activities in the medical record according to procedures. + Complies with safety policies, procedures, and standard precautions. Completes assigned work promptly and productively. + Adheres strictly to all patient care and hospital information policies and procedures. + High school diploma or equivalent preferred. + Experience in a healthcare setting preferred. + Good communication skills. + Displays excellent customer service skills. Basic computer knowledge. + This position typically reports to Transport Supervisor. May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients.
