Model Risk Management & Risk Analytics Lead
The Model Risk Management & Risk Analytics Lead of Thrivent Bank is responsible for managing and overseeing model optimization, calibration and effective model governance and testing for all models used by Thrivent Bank as defined by policy. This position is also instrumental in administering the Bank’s Governance, Risk, and Compliance (“GRC”) solution, evaluating emerging trends within risk data and supporting the execution of the Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management Program and Framework. **This is a hybrid position. Key Responsibilities: + Collaborate with Bank senior and executive management, to maintain risk appetite statements and correlating key risk indicators and thresholds. + Monitor key risk indicators for adverse movements and follow for escalation review and remedial action determination. + Manage the development, maintenance, and evolution of enterprise risk reporting for senior management and the Board. + Create customized, ad-hoc reports for a wide range of objectives and target stakeholders. + Contribute to comprehensive data capture of key risk metrics and risk and control linkage within the risk management software and tools. + Review internal and external resources to identify and evaluate new and emerging risks. + Evaluate emerging risk materiality for potential need for action + Oversees independent validation of model conceptual framework, assumptions, technical soundness, performance, and implementation against intended model uses in compliance with Fed/OCC regulatory and Thrivent's model validation policies and guidelines. + Manage validation timeline, ongoing monitoring, and survey for changes. + Ensure the on-time completion and distribution of high-quality model validation reports. + Effectively collaborate and partner at all levels of the organization within and outside of Model Risk; guides, advises, challenges, and influences to drive organizational impact. + Provide leadership and guidance to business management and functional leaders on model risk program requirements and risk assessments. + As the subject matter expert on model risk management oversee the policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistent model risk management practices. Minimum Requirements: + Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, financial engineering, data sciences, predictive modeling, or other quantitative disciplines with extensive relevant model development/validation experience preferably within financial industry. Advanced degree desirable, master’s degree preferred. + 7-10 years of professional experience in model risk management, enterprise or operational risk management, compliance, internal audit, or related field with experience in risk assessment, and risk mitigation. + Solid expertise with both traditional and Machine Learning (ML)/Artificial Intelligence (AI) modeling practice and solutions. + Knowledge of and ability to leverage traditional databases, cloud-based computing, and distribution computing. + Business acumen with deep knowledge of banking regulations, products, and services. + Knowledge of and ability to establish standards and best practices; Identify, employ, and evangelize emerging techniques from industry/research. + Superior written and verbal communication skills; delivers high quality written messages; capable of conveying translate technical observations to a non-technical audience and communicate observations to senior executives. + Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels. + Strong ethical values and a commitment to promoting a culture of risk awareness and accountability. The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $136,721.00 - $184,976.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
