Job Description
As a Mold Designer, you will play a critical role in developing and designing cooling and ejection systems for molds, ensuring all mechanisms function correctly and meet customer standards. You will work closely with internal personnel and customers to deliver quality tooling while adhering to safety standards and best practices.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop cooling and ejection systems for molds.Verify mechanisms function properly in the design.Understand and apply customer or internal standards to the mold design.Ensure molds meet customer and try-out locations press parameters.Incorporate machining and mold making best practices with consideration for cost and timing.Attend customer reviews independently as needed.Interact with internal personnel and customers to ensure quality tooling, including providing documentation for customer approval.Incorporate customer and internal safety standards into all tool designs.Initiate purchase requisitions for block size and other purchased components.Notify appropriate personnel of any hardware/software inadequacies that hinder productivity.Collaborate closely with manufacturing personnel to produce quality and cost-effective tooling.Support and train junior designers as necessary.Share best practices and lessons learned with the engineering team.Navigate challenges such as fluctuating workload, multitasking, and conflicting priorities.Make decisions regarding steel and seal-off conditions, water locations, ejection quantity/size, tool strength, and assembly feasibility.Essential Skills10+ years of experience in the tool and mold trade.5+ years of experience designing tooling/plastic injection molds within the automotive industry.5+ years of experience with CATIA or NX, with CATIA preferred.Experience with feasibility studies and advanced feasibility.High-level communication skills for customer-facing interactions.Mold surfacing experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsCollege certification in mold making and design or equivalent.University degree preferred.Experience with injection molding and mold making in the automotive industry.Work Environment
You will be part of a team of approximately 15 members, including 7 designers. The facility operates roughly from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, depending on daily requirements. The work environment is collaborative, with opportunities for learning from experienced professionals in the industry.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $43.00/hr.
