This role will be involved in diverse activities in the lab, focusing on molecular diagnosis, to bring support to breeding programs and seed production in Mexico, as well as nursery centralization in Tlajomulco.
Responsibilities
Interact with Pathology team as well as other areas involved in Breeding activities
Contribute to ensure an efficient way of working for molecular detection of corn and sorghum pathogens
Collect plant and insect samples in the fields for pathogen detection
Sample processing by microbiological techniques (culturing and incubation)
Sample processing for molecular diagnostics (DNA and RNA extractions)
Help to maintain the inventory of molecular reagents (primers, DNA samples and synthetic controls)
Preparation of daily use buffers and solutions needed for molecular techniques
Execution of PCR assays (end-point and real time PCR)
Assist the team to plan and execute experiments in the green house
Provide support in diverse activities in the lab when needed: Disease trait characterization, inoculum production, field inoculations, materials inventory, lab waste disposal, germination tests, diagnostic activities, etc.
Qualifications
Desirable master’s degree in Agronomy, Biology, Biotechnology or related areas
Experience in Plant Breeding, Laboratory working, and molecular biology
Desirable use of statistical software
Ability to work independently as well as collaborate as a team
Mandatory Intermediate English level
