The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, known as one of the pioneers in personalized cancer medicine, is an international leader in research and cancer treatment. With decades of academic laboratory experience in pathology and genetics, the Knight Diagnostic Laboratories deliver advanced diagnostic testing to make personalized medicine a reality. Specializing in oncology, rare genetic disorders, and infectious disease, the laboratories are CLIA certified and CAP accredited.  Our Medical Directors and seasoned technical staff have many years of experience in clinical testing and test development and are dedicated to providing the best quality service for physicians and their patients.

Through our close partnership with the Knight BioLibrary and Histopathology Shared Resource Laboratories, research investigators can gain access to human biological specimens, histology, and immunohistochemistry services.

The Molecular Technologist performs high complexity genomic testing, including all phases of Next Generation Sequencing and data analysis. This position requires a strong background in molecular biology principles and processes, knowledge of laboratory and molecular biology-specific terminology, equipment, materials, techniques, and safety. Additional requirements include the ability to perform routine clinical throughput and troubleshoot procedures, and to follow written and oral instructions accurately. This position will enable the laboratory to provide high quality testing services that support the overall patient care mission of the Knight Cancer Institute and OHSU Hospitals and Clinics.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation using amplicon and hybridization methods, and sequencing on Illumina platforms. Analysis of NGS data.Submits laboratory data to the director and to the lab information system for use in preparation of patient reports.  Maintains appropriate records.  Performs additional assignments as deemed necessary by the director or laboratory section coordinator.Participates in research and development of new laboratory methods. Required Qualifications

Education & experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a biological science AND completion of a training program or one year of experience performing molecular techniques OR An equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Ability to complete time sensitive tasks according to protocolsAbility to prioritize multiple tasks at one time.Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as superb analytical and organizational skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems.  Preferred Qualifications

MT or MLS certification preferred
